Tips and Tricks:Love Your Library

Do you love your local library?  I do, I love that my kids love it there too.
They will both sit quietly and read/look at the pictures for a good bit of time while I wander the shelves myself, uninterrupted.
I love the promise of a good book, be it fiction or non
and what better non fiction section than the creative arts section?

Now, not all libraries have a fabulous stash of creative/crafty books,
sometimes I am delighted to stumble upon a great title, but often I come home empty handed.

Did you know you can request an inter library loan from almost anywhere in Australia and for a small cost (about a dollar usually) your local library will arrange this for you?

To find out if the book you are after resides somewhere in our vast country, go to The Trove website, which is the site of the National Library of Australia's search engine.
Search for your book to see if there is a listing.  Now I do believe it is easier if there is a copy somewhere in your own city or state, so start there first.  You may be able to request a copy there and then, or you may have to take the details into your local library and the the librarian will organise it for you.

How fab is that?

Happy Reading!

  1. Lovely post, lovely blog, so nice to find a fellow library-lover. Our local one is full of derros in search of a comfy armchair in which to snooze or naughty teens using the computers for Facebook, which is fine, but they're not the kind of people that you can discuss books with. Then again, they're not going to nab all the goodies from the cookbook section either! I found my newest love at the library - you can find out more about him here: http://kitchen-maid.blogspot.com/2010/09/my-secret-crush.html

  7. I think libraries are a totally under-rated resource. They sit at the heart of the community and offer so much.

  10. I LOVE my library. In my part of the land I have set up a profile with my library so that they send me alert emails when they acquire a new crafty book... means I can often get to the top of the reservation list for "hot" items!
